A unique and scarce object. Printed for Queen Mary II, oldest daughter of King James II, wife of King William III. She died in 1694. The book is in the original, custom binding, genuine goat skin vellum with gilt-embossed front and back cover identical decorations: centered is the Tudor seal framed in a vertical rectangle with various floral and leaf designs, a second frame along the edges with design inside of the corners. Remnants of a ribbon closure, 2 cloth knots each on front and back panel. All gilt edged. Marbleized end papers. There is a two-page list of "Books lately printed for William Crooke, a the Green Dragon without Temple-Barr.... Manningham, bishop of Chichester 1709-1722. Unique and an interesting document of the British Restauration aera.
Some of the gilt decor has worn off. Light soiling and finger marks on several pages, light tanning and spotting of cover, still with the impression of a warm cream colour overall. A stunning and attractive book.
