Vol. I is the 3rd printing, tipped in frontispiece portrait of Yün- Men Wen-Yän, 864-949, 4 sheets of special paper with Chinese characters in brush, Introduction, extensive commentary to the texts, Afterword, Index. Vol. II is a first printing, with Introduction, appendix with tables, Chinese characters, notes to map, indices of names, subjects and places, map to Bi-yan-lu inserted at back paste down. Vol. III first edition. With foreword, notes, hommage to W. Gundert, bibliography of his works, sources, indices of names and places. Gundert died after completing this ambitious work, the "crowning" of his lifetime occupation with the Asian culture.
