1 volume of text, 1 volume notes.
Vol. 1 has full page frontispiece, 2 title vignettes and 2 full page engravings. It consists of 3 parts of 3 cantos ea. plus "Hudibras to His Lady". The 9 cantos ea. have very attractive 1/3rd page pictorial engraving at beginning and end, average 3 1/2 by7in in size. In total, three of the engr. show some foxing in margin only, the 2 full size engr. have a larger water stain in margin only..Vol. 2, Notes, has a frontispiece portrait of Butler, no additional engravings. Both vols are very clean except for some darkening of prelims..Both bindings repaired with brown cloth spine with modern gilt titles. The 'Notes' also have a replaced back cover, paper over board..The binding is strong and functional, a professional repair. The original binding is so old and shows surface wear, it would have been pretty much impossible or, extremely expensive to match it. The other option would have been a complete modern replacement. It represents itself with a decent binding, not an 'attractive' binding
